About Us

Our family consists of Mom (Laura), Dad (Chris), Mathis and sister (Maike). We moved from Ohio to Wisconsin in 2024 for Mathis' treatment. The move has been bittersweet as we lived 2 doors away from Mathis' maternal grandmother (Oma) and grandfather (Opa) in Ohio, but we are also enjoying life in Lake Country. We are looking forward to the summer months as we are happiest outdoors. Dad works from home (software developer) and Mom is currently stay-home but had her own business (speech pathology) in Ohio. We recently purchased a house in Oconomowoc that we are renovating. We have a friendly 2-year-old yellow lab named Gretel, a house rabbit (Ginger), and a tenacious hermit crab (Pinch).

How You Can Help

We are looking for someone who has experience with children with disabilities who can walk that necessary and delicate balance between persistence (setting and maintaining appropriate boundaries and expectations) and patience. Definitely someone who is even-tempered and calm. Someone with a good sense of humor who is fun-loving/energetic and has a joyous/happy heart would be a welcome addition as Mom (the one seeking respite) is feeling especially exhausted lately and does not always have that extra energy to give. Mathis struggles with executive function and decision making, so it will be helpful to have someone who is creative and motivated to plan fun outings (Mathis loves the outdoors) and activities (Mathis loves STEM/engineering) to enjoy together. We live within walking distance of several parks and lakes as well as downtown Oconomowoc.
