My husband Cole and I have been living on the Eastside of Milwaukee together for about 11 years. We wanted to start a family and tried for a long time before finally getting pregnant after our third IVF embryo transfer. We were overjoyed, but not long after we discovered I had some very serious complications with the pregnancy. Rae was born via emergency c-section at 24 weeks and at 1 lb 7 oz. Due to her prematurity she had some pretty severe brain bleeding and very underdeveloped lungs. They told us she was very likely to have lifelong complications such as cerebral palsy. She stayed in the NICU at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin for five months before we joyfully brought her home. She came home on oxygen support and with a feeding tube. We worked tirelessly with the help of her doctors and therapists and soon enough she was able to have her feeding tube removed and slowly weened off oxygen. She is such a strong, happy, miracle baby and she is so loved! She has low muscle tone and is developmentally delayed even for her corrected age, but continues to make strides towards her goals.
I work from home and take care of Rae at the same time. As she gets older, she needs more engagement and enrichment. It’s sometimes difficult for me to focus on her and work at the same time. We would like someone who can interact and play with her and help her with physical/developmental strengthening activities so I can get a break to focus on work. It would also help me to balance housekeeping and errands. Most of the time I would still be at home during the respite, but able to focus solely on work.
